One-of-a-kind, lovely pet portraits

A custom pet portrait is a beautiful way to celebrate the bond you share with your beloved companion. It is more than just a picture or simple copy of a photo—it is a timeless artwork that captures their personality, charm, and spirit in a way that photographs often cannot. Whether to honor a pet's memory or to treasure their presence for years to come, an oil painting transforms their likeness into a work of art. It is not just about decoration; it’s about preserving the essence of your furry friend in a unique, personal, and lasting way that you’ll cherish forever.

Commission process

Below you can find more information on how the commission process works. Feel free to reach out if you have any questions—I’m happy to help! Keep in mind that oil paints take time to dry, so it may take about three weeks after completion before it’s ready for delivery. Please allow 6-10 weeks for the entire process. If you need the artwork by a specific date, let me know as early as possible, and I’ll do my best to meet your timeline. Please also get familiar with the Terms and Conditions as well as the Data Protection Policy.

  1. Preferred Size of the Painting: Start to think about where would you like to hang or keep the portrait and how it will fit in your space. But no hurry, we can also decide it together, early on or after selecting the photo.
I work on stretched canvas, and paint the sides of it, therefore, framing is usually not needed, it is very beautiful without. But feel free to frame it later if you like, and if you plan to do so, then consider the size with the additional frame. If you would like the painting rather on a panel/board, or you prefer a size that is not listed, please let me know, and we will find a solution. Take a look at my size and price list for details.

  2. Select or Take High-Quality Photos: The photo quality is the most important factor in the process: the better the photo quality and composition, the better the portrait will be! Please pick clear, well-lit photos that are in focus and show your pet’s personality. Best is to take the photos outdoors as natural light is the best when it comes to pet portraits.
Some tips: take the photo by getting to the eye-level of your pet. Try to fill the actual camera frame with your pet (i.e. without zooming with the camera). If you would like a head and chest painting, get up close to your pet and make sure the full head is included (with ears); and if you would like a full body painting, still take the photo from up close, fill the frame with the pet’s body, do not take the picture from far away.
Make sure the image is at least 2 MB and send it with its actual size. It is a good idea to send several pictures (marking your preferred one, if you have), not only for more options but also that I can get a sense of your pet’s character. If you are unsure which picture is the best, I am happy to help you choose.

  3. Fill Out the Commission Form: Provide your pet’s details and any other important information, such as if it is a gift and if you need it urgently. Please note: there is NO obligation to purchase when you submit the form, it’s just to start our discussion.

  4. Agree on the Composition: Once we have settled on the portrait size and the photo, I will create a mock-up of the composition so that you have an idea already about the final piece and we can still change the composition at this stage.

  5. Final Offer: Once we agree on the composition, I will send you the final offer for the work to start. At this point, a 50% of the full price is required as a deposit. It is refundable if you change your mind and cancel the work within 72 hours after agreeing to the offer, i.e., after you paid and I recieved the 50% deposit. After 72 hours, this amount is non-refundable as I need to buy the materials and spend time on the painting. The 72 hours cancellation period does not apply on urgent works, as I will start the painting as soon as possible.

  6. I’ll Start Painting!: After I received the deposit, I will start working on the painting.

  7. Consultation: Once your artwork is complete, you will receive an email with a high-quality watermarked photograph for your approval. If you wish to make any minor adjustments, this is the time to request them at no extra cost. Significant changes that deviate from the original commission may incur additional charges. Please note that due to the nature of oil painting, making major changes might not always be feasible after completion. Once you approve the final artwork, no further modifications will be made.

  8. Final Payment: Once you have seen a photo of the finished portrait and are happy with it, the remaining balance is due before collection or shipping.

  9. Receive Your Painting: You can either collect the portrait from my studio in Horgen (Zurich) or I can arrange shipping (additional charges apply based on size).
